The M-5 Experimental Utility Knife
was manufactured at the Springfield Armory in 1957 at the request
of the U.S. Army Infantry Board, ---using Arial M-5 Bayonets.
The Army was considering eliminating the bayonet at that time,
but eventually rejected the idea. The blade has hard rubber grips
that were easy to replace, if damaged. Only 12 of these knives
were made.
